End of a Reader Era

It’s now old news that Google Reader is shutting down. This truly is a shame and it’s driven me to find a replacement, which has been a slightly arduous but now (hopefully!) rewarding process. I’ve settled on NewsBlur. I absolutely love their full site reader but have found their mobile options sadly lacking. I’ve signed up for a one year account because the full site option is the best around that I’ve found–and I feel confident the mobile channels will continue to grow (or I will contribute–it’s an open source project!). NewsBlur isn’t perfect by any means…it’s missing search functionality, which is absolutely annoying and I’m sure will only get more frustrating down the road, but it gets the job done for now. Hopefully their staff will continue to add features to the product. I feel optimistic about it.

Some final Google Reader statistics:

From your 113 subscriptions, over the last 30 days you read 1,856 items, clicked 138 items, starred 8 items, and emailed 5 items.

Since December 16, 2009 you have read a total of 127,463 items.
